Dear supporters,
We know that this time of year can be especially isolating for migrant and racialised communities. It is precisely at these moments where community and solidarity is more important than ever.
This is why we are asking for your support during this critical time. Our Solidarity Spaces are vital hubs of connection for migrant and racialised communities, bringing joy, solidarity and strength to the community. This space has been running for three months, but we need your help to continue it in 2025. So if you are interested in supporting our Winter Appeal, please keep reading.
Last month, we were incredibly busy with Islamophobia Awareness Month, and we released a collaborative blog with the Inclusive Mosque Initiative about the need for queer movements to challenge Islamophobia. Migrant justice requires us to reject Islamophobia, and so we also co-wrote a Words Matter explainer with CAGE, urging the migration sector to be critical of the way that ‘terrorism’ is invoked to oppress Muslim migrants and migratised people. We followed this up with a detailed Hostile Office blog exploring the the growing reach of counter-terror powers, such as Prevent, in the immigration system, and their disproportionate targeting of Muslim communities. Find out more below.
We end this newsletter with other campaign updates, including a new resource on gender and sexuality for migrant support services, as well as personal stories from our community members for Disability History Month.
We thank you all for your support this year, and we wish you a restful holiday period with your loved ones. The fight for migrant liberation is far from over, and we hope you will remain with us in 2025, as we continue our pursuit of justice for all migrants.
See you in the new year!
In solidarity,
The MRN Team
Help keep our Solidarity Space alive this Winter!

At MRN, we understand the power of community. The Government thrives in keeping us apart, but we know we are stronger together.
That’s what makes our Solidarity Spaces so important. They provide a safe place where people can come together to share experiences, celebrate their identities, shape their own journeys and build lasting friendships in a community that truly values them.
These gatherings are especially vital during the winter months, when isolation and declining mental health are all too common. By coming together in these spaces, migrant communities are able to find joy and solidarity, strengthening their ability to navigate the broader challenges they face.
We are a small charity, which means all our work is funded by generous donations and grants. Support for migrant, including refugee, communities is being stripped back, and we need your help to keep this vital space going.
Your support can help sustain this work, nurturing spaces where connection and solidarity thrive year-round, building communities that are not just welcoming but long-lasting.
How can your donation help?
- £10 could help us cover travel costs for those unable to afford public transport
- £20 could help us provide resources, games, arts and crafts, and other things that community members would like to see within the space
- £50 could help us provide free meals, refreshments and take away boxes to those who are at the sharpest end of the cost of living crisis

Islamophobia Awareness Month

Collaborative blog: Islamophobia has no place in the fight for queer liberation!
The Migrants’ Rights Network and the Inclusive Mosque Initiative reject the idea that anti-migrant racism and Islamophobia are necessary in the fight for Queer justice. We are against the way the Government is using LGBTQ+ issues to justify the Islamophobic ‘Prevent’ strategy.
We call on LGBTQ+ and migrant rights groups to recognise that all struggles are connected, and to work together to end all forms of discrimination, including racism, Islamophobia and queerphobia.
