Volunteer Legal Experts
What are we looking for?
The Migrants’ Rights Network is seeking volunteer experts from a range of legal backgrounds to support our campaigns and communities.
We are looking for people who align with our values and are supportive, to ensure our campaigns and policies are fully informed from a wide variety of voices, intersecting identities and experiences, and migration backgrounds.
We are particularly interested in legal expertise in the following fields that would support our communities, and inform our campaigns:
- Contract law- to support our sponsored workers campaign
- Immigration lawyers/ advisors- to answer ad hoc questions that may inform campaigns and influencing policy, and to offer general information via webinars or meetings
- Fraud experts- to support our bank account closure campaign
- Employment experts- to support our sponsored workers campaign, and and to offer general information via webinars or meetings
- Public law- to support our accommodation campaigns
Your role would be to:
- Offer advice and support to inform and shape our campaigns
- Be available to answer ad hoc issues that may arise from engaging with migrants, including refugees
- Be a critical friend
What will you get?:
- Recognition for your advice and support
- Build and inform our campaigns and policy recommendations
- Opportunities to speak directly to policy and decision-makers
- An opportunity to work with an organisation focused on anti-oppression and anti-racism practices and approaches.
We particularly welcome legal experts with lived experience of the migration systems, those of racialised backgrounds, and those with identities and experiences that are less represented in this sector.
If you’re interested in joining the MRN community of experts, please drop a line to Fizza Qureshi at [email protected] to schedule an informal conversation.
