Sev: Why I chose to fundraise for MRN

Hi! My name is Sev, and so far, I’ve raised about £1,500 for the Migrants’ Rights Network, and I’ll be running in the London Marathon representing them.

That’s amazing! How has your fundraising journey been going so far?

We’ve hosted some really fun fundraising events, including a pub quiz in which 50 people turned up and competed for some fun prizes like running shoes. But next up- watch this space!- is gonna be a club night on 14 June. So hopefully see you there!

Why did you decide to fundraise for MRN?

I believe over the last few years, the UK has become a much more hostile environment for migrants, and I’ve continuously tried to advocate for the rights of asylum seekers and refugees, both at university and alongside my career. And I was always aware of the amazing work that the Migrants’ Rights Network did, both in terms of policy, advocacy, and community building at a grassroots level. So running the marathon for them seemed like a natural next step.

What would you say to people looking to fundraise?

I would wholeheartedly encourage anyone looking to fundraise to fundraise for the Migrants’ Rights Network. Not only is it a great cause, but their team are absolutely amazing, and throughout the fundraising, I’ve really built some great connections with MRN that I hope to take forward.

So how can people get involved?

If you want to fundraise for the Migrants’ Rights Network and help them stand in solidarity with migrants fighting for their rights and justice, you can email [email protected]. Thank you very much everyone.
