Publication of the nationalities of foreign national offenders

For the first time, the Home Office has announced that it will be publicising the nationalities of foreign national offenders (FNOs).

We must challenge the dog whistle politics that attempt to manufacture a link between nationality, religion, ethnicity and criminality, and that attempt to present criminality as something exclusively inherent to “incompatible cultures”.

In the aftermath of last summer’s racist riots, the Government’s increasing pandering to the far right is highly dangerous and especially irresponsible. We are concerned that the publicising of FNO nationalities will continue to be used as fodder for the vilification of migrant, racialised and Muslim communities, and we urge the Home Office to reconsider its decision.
