Hackney Migrant Centre (HMC) is a small but very busy charity based in Stoke Newington. We run a weekly drop-in session, providing advice and support to migrants who have immigration, housing, welfare and health problems. Our services include:
- Free immigration and welfare advice
- Health advocacy, especially help in accessing NHS health services
- A delicious, nutritious meal and a sociable atmosphere
HMC has a small but growing staff and a large number of volunteers help at the drop in session and in other ways. We are funded entirely by donations from individuals and organisations and are well supported by the local community and businesses.
We have recently undertaken a major review of our service and how we maintain and develop our work in the current hostile environment for immigration. We are planning to increase our staffing level and to increase the campaigning aspects of our work.
We are looking for one or two new members to join our hardworking and committed team of trustees. The trustees are responsible for the overall strategy of HMC, and work closely with staff to improve our services and raise awareness of the issues which our visitors face as a result of their insecure immigration status.
If you might be interested in becoming a trustee, please contact the secretary, at [email protected] , giving a brief outline of the skills and experience you could bring to HMC.
