Freelance bookkeeper – Hackney Migrant Centre

Freelance, one day (6 hours) a week £120 daily rate – office based

Job Description

HMC is currently looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to work for a migrants’ rights charity. A good level of experience of general bookkeeping on Quickbooks Online is essential, together with excellent communication skills, an eye for detail and a positive approach.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To ensure suppliers, project partners, HMRC and expenses are paid on time
  • To ensure that all expenditure invoices are appropriately authorised, properly recorded and paid within agreed timescales
  • To ensure the charity’s income is accurately recorded on Quickbooks
  • To ensure all source documents are filed efficiently
  • To set up payments to suppliers, grant recipients, staff expenses on internet banking and ensure corresponding accounting entries are made
  • To reconcile bank statements and petty cash and various other accounts at least monthly
  • To input or reverse journals as directed by Centre Managers or treasurer
  • To assist managers with ad hoc financial information as may be required
  • To administer Gift Aid documentations completed by individual donors and process claim form with HMRC
  • To administer online donations to the charity, including, inputting into Quickbooks, updating supporter records, thanking supports, adding to mailing lists etc
  • To assist the Centre Manager with administering and recording petty cash
  • To deal with staff or trustee queries and producing ad hoc reports as may be required
  • To assist the treasurer and line manager with reports for trustees, funding reports etc

You must have prior experience of using QuickBooks Online, Excel and Word.
