Candidates in the UK general election are being urged to pledge support for refugees. The Refugee Council says that it is important “to remember the importance of refugee protection in debates about immigration and to support the UK’s proud tradition of welcoming refugees and helping them rebuild their lives here”.
The Refugee Welcome Pledge reads:
“I pledge to respect the importance of refugee protection, including in wide-ranging debates about immigration, and, if elected, to uphold the proud tradition throughout the UK of welcoming people forced to flee war and persecution and helping them rebuild their lives”.
Voters can find out how to contact their local candidates to ask them to sign up to the pledge here: http://act.refugeecouncil.org.uk/lobby/refugees_welcome_pledge
